She has been around the political sphere for quite some time now; well, not as a politician, but as a highly regarded political reporter.
Hadijja was both a Luganda reporter and news anchor at KFM for several years before she was elevated to Luganda news editor at the same station. Hadijja was later promoted to head the news team at Dembe Fm after it was acquired by Nation Media Group (NMG), about two years back.
And after seeing different people come and go, some of whom have lost seats in Parliament due to reasons like lack of academic papers, Mwanje thinks it’s her time now.
Mwanje recently declared intentions to contest for the Masaka District Woman MP seat come next year 2016.
If her word is anything to go by, Hadijja will be facing up with the incumbent NRM’s Freda Mubanda. To prove she means every bit of her intentions, last week, Hadijja stormed some areas she intends to represent in Parliament and held consultative meetings with communities and their leaders.
Hadijja told us that she drew the inspiration to stand for a political office from the kind of people she has seen joining Parliament over the years; “Some people we have in parliament are so half baked; many of them can’t articulate issues.
So I wondered why I should sit and watch on as such people make decisions for me and fellow Ugandans. I feel I am better than many of them, so I decided to get into the kitchen and show them how to cook best,” Hadijja told us.
Hadijja was however tightlipped on details like the political party she will be affiliated to during the contest. Hadijja told us that she is getting herself ready and that she will step aside from her job when the time is right, to fully engage in campaigns more seriously.
