Get ready for Big Brother

EstherREALITY SHOW: Reigning Miss Uganda Stella Nantumbwe and former dancer Esther Akankwasa are representing Uganda in the Big Brother Africa show that starts this Sunday, writes Brenda Banura

When headlines of websites and newspapers went gaga with news that the Big Brother Africa (BBA) house had got burnt, many fans thought it was a hoax until September 7, the initial launch of Big Brother Hotshots, the ninth episode of the reality show came and nothing happened.

Consequently, the kick-off date was postponed to this Sunday, October 5.
For the first time ever, Big Brother has revealed the names of the housemates. This is usually the biggest trick under Big Brother’s hat and since it is now on the table, the fans cannot wait to see surprises that will come with the launch.
The house looks fresh, a lot of attention has been paid to the diary room and the housemates in their bios are all trying to sound as attractive as possible.

Rwanda and Mozambique will be making their debut at this year’s big brother, bringing the total number of countries to 14, each with two housemates bringing the total to 28 housemates if there will be no surprise housemate. For 91 days watched by over 30 cameras, these will battle it out for the ultimate prize; $300,000 (about Shs780m).

If you were wondering where the reigning Miss Uganda Stella Nantumbwe was, at the launch of the new Miss Uganda search, she was in South Africa waiting to be unveiled for BBA. Nantumbwe, who is going by the name Ellah, will be one of Uganda’s representatives at this year’s BBA. She says that if she were an animal, she’d be a lioness, because of all the power that comes with it. She promises Africa a “cocktail of personality” with a rough edge.

It is not a move that Brenda Nanyonjo, the Miss Uganda CEO is comfortable with. While chatting with Sqoop, she said she advised her (Nantumbwe) against going for BBA because as the reigning beauty queen she needed to perform her duties until the end of her term.
Nantumbwe will be joined by Esther Namuddu Akankwasa, a dancer, who promises to display unique skills, entertain and be herself.
The show launches this Sunday at 7pm and will show 24-7 on DStv 197 and 198.
