And yet another sequel befalls us this week. Not that we are complaining, some movies are worth as many sequels as the producers can milk out of them. Transformers is one of them. The trick is to make things interesting.
The fourth installment, Transformers: Age of Extinction, achieves this with an almost complete overhaul of the cast, both human and robotic. For starters, Shia LaBeouf doesn’t return as the main character (sorry ladies). And neither do Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson.
On the side of the Autobots – our friendly robots that are disguised as cars, only Optimus Prime (thank God!), Bumblebee, Brains and Ratchet return. Also, the Autobots have another set of robots to contend with on top of the Decepticons, the Dinobots.
The movie follows Cade Yeager (Wahlberg), his daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz) and her racecar driver boyfriend Shane (Jack Reynor). Yeager finds a rusty truck at a theatre, which is about to be demolished and takes it home. The truck turns out to be Optimus Prime and Yeager’s assistant tries to publicise it for an award, forcing Yeager, Tessa and Optimus Prime to go into hiding. Optimus Prime gathers the rest of the surviving Autobots just in time to stave off the man-made transformers.
From the trailer, the fights in this installment are more dramatic and are worth watching in 3D. There are also some sweet rides in the movie that will warm car-lovers’ hearts. Optimus Prime for instance transforms into two trucks including a monster Western Star 4900 Phantom Custom instead of the Peterbilt 379 Truck we have come to know him by. Bumbleebee upgrades to a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro from the 1967 one. In short, it is good advertising for General Motors.
This is a movie anyone who loves speed and action will enjoy.
