If you are scrolling through Netflix looking for a cosy, feel-good binge after a long day, Adolescence is not that show. But if you are up for something raw and real, then you might want to hit play, especially if you have been seeing all the buzz about the show online.

The show is a limited series that dives headfirst into the messy world of teenage boys and the dangerous ways toxic masculinity starts to shape them. It is timely, uncomfortable, and painfully honest. The show is about Jamie (Cooper) who is arrested for the murder of his classmate. As the case unfolds, we get to see how social media personalities such as Andrew Tate influence young boys and their attitude towards women. Besides the story, the acting also holds the show together.

Cooper’s acting is eerily good that it does not feel like acting. You can feel the tension bubbling under the surface of every scene, and that is no small feat. As earlier mentioned, this is not light watching. It will make you uncomfortable. It will make you think. And that is exactly why it is important. Bottom line, Adolescence is a punch to the gut, but one worth taking. It ill just be hard to pair it with popcorn and a cozy blanket.
