Earlier this year, it was announced that three big brands; Swangz Avenue, Talent Africa Group and House of DJs were coming together for the first time to stage a concert.
It was later announced that the three, in partnership with UBL brands; Bell and Ugandan Waragi were behind Jamaican sensation Dexta Daps’ show in Kampala. It was anticipated to be the ultimate December vibe as this was going to be the singer’s African debut.
Dubbed the Noise Nation Festival, the event, lived up to expectation last Saturday evening as it delivered an unforgettable night of epic performances and fresh vibes.
The Jamaican artiste flew into the country on Wednesday and had some catching up to do. He did a media tour, had conversations with some Ugandan artistes such as Beenie Gunter and Karole Kasita and also tasted a rolex. By the time he went up on stage, he was a bit conversant with Uganda.
He knew what was expected of him and did exactly that, performing songs that Ugandans were familiar with. Songs such as You & I, Forever, WiFi, Twinkle, Breaking News, 7 Eleven, F U, Bring It To The Owner, No Underwear and Call Me before going for a brief break and returning with Leader and Squeeze as his last song.“PG (Parental Guidance)” he shouted before what many regarded as the highlight of the show.
This set had a bed on stage, he was shirtless and had Ugandan dancer Rita Dancehall in handcuffs and a bedsheet, doing to him things that we only see in his videos and clips when he is performing elsewhere. Before Dexta Daps, the stage was graced by some Ugandan artistes, including Nutty Neithan, John Blaq, Dax Vybz, Karole Kasita and all Swangz Avenue artistes whose performance had a sound disruption, especially when they were performing Mary Jane and Wanika Bendera.
You could hardly hear them. They were also seen switching microphones at some point but the sight of Vinka, Azawi, Winnie Nwagi, all on one stage sent chills in the audience. The other memorable moment during the show was Vampino and Benon being hype men, with each choosing which side of the audience was more vibrant with the type of music the deejay played.
They invited Navio and The Mith for a short performance as well. With how successful things transpired last Saturday, it was announced that the Noise Nation will be an annual event.
