Entertainment, music, dance and sport celebrations were the order of the day at the first anniversary of Mbarara Sports Arena which has uplifted and nurtured young talent as well as enhanced fitness in the community. There was also peformances and games as part of charity work organised to help the needy. The Arena, which is co-owned by singer Eddy Kenzo and Mbarara-based businessman Kashaka Twaha, attracted different kinds of people regardless their age through provision of mini sports grounds to make room for sports loversKashaka says the profits made from the centre are intended to help the needy through their charity foundation dubbed Kashaka Foundation where they pay school fees, provide food and clothing, among other humanitarian work for the less privileged in the Mbarara community.DM bodytext: He says ever since the sports Arena was opened, a number of youth have shunned drug and alcohol use and concentrated on making themselves fit through sports.
He also noted that a big percentage of the profits made from the arena will be given back to the community through charity work.
“Workers who are always busy during work days have where to spend their weekends. This place has kept many physically fit and engaged socially,” Kashaka said.
He added that when the arena opened, they wanted to promote sports in the area because previously people used to say Banyankole are not sports lovers.
At the anniversary celebrations recently, the Arena Super League final night Minister Nyamutoro and Eddy Kenzo stole the show as many were excited to catch a glimpse of the celebrity couple who were also the guests of honour.
The couple witnessed and oversaw the awarding of outstanding participants of the league as City Shooters was crowned winners of the 2024 competitions.
Nyamutoro gave a message of hope as she urged youth to always engage in social and recreation activities rather than keeping idle and end up using drugs and alcohol.
Eddy Kenzo said the recreation grounds were put in place to help nurture talents through different kinds of sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, Tennis, Swimming, among others, which are all found at the arena.
“Do not worry, come play games, do some physicals to stay fit, we have various games here and other fitness services, I thank those who have supported us ever since we started,” Eddy Kenzo said.
Only Music from Eddy Kenzo was played at the celebrations as entertainers such as Mark T dancers group excited fans.
