I wanted the freedom to work at my will and pace – Frobisher

Frobisher Lwanga

Frobisher Lwanga is a comedian and one of the founding members of Theatre Factory and Fun Factory. His mother, an actress with the Ebonies wanted him to either be a sportsman or a lawyer but that was not his plan. He wanted something different. Something that would give him liberty and peace of mind and to him that was comedy.

“The freedom to work at my free will and pace. I don’t think I was cut out for the 8 am to 5 pm jobs.” As an actor, I summarize all roles as they come,” Lwanga says.

Frobisher Lwanga began his journey as an actor while at St. Savio and then Namasagali College School before he joined Theatre Factory. He however took a break and on his return, he joined Fun Factory.

“While I was abroad on a break, I was confused about where I should go when I returned but when I came back, I went back to Theatre Factory and later swindled off to Fun Factory,” he narrated. He does not regret the decision because 20- years later, the group is like family, and attributes their togetherness to a number of things.

“The kind of comedy we do is not like any other to the point of attracting a number of companies that employ us like MasterCard or Stanbic Bank among others.

He also believes that the use of film or TV will be the next wave or sort of medium to use for any comedian because it opens up more doors than one can ever imagine but should also maintain the stage.

Frobisher Lwanga is going to be part of the Fun Factory group that is celebrating 20 years of comedy in a show dubbed ‘The Big Sunday’. It will happen at the Kampala Serena Hotel on October 1, and tickets are already on sale.
