Miss Tourism Uganda 2013 will be crowned tomorrow at a gala night in the Kampala Sheraton Hotel gardens at 7pm.
The winner will be selected from the nine finalists who have pulled through an action-packed three months of tense auditions, a daunting road trip around the country and two-week boot camp.
Shamim Nakamyuka, Aisha Nagudi, Sarah Abe Wacha, Kellen Nakaye, Harriet Barbra Nakito, Mercy Waigo, Sandra Akello, Kevina Wandira and Margaret Munyendo are the girls with a chance to claim the crown.
The top prize hasn’t been communicated yet but the organisers have confirmed that the winner will go on a holiday trip to Istanbul, Turkey before leaving for the Miss Tourism International pageant in Malaysia slated for December 31.
Entrance to the gala is Shs30,000 for ordinary tickets while VIPs will each part with Shs150,000 and a table of eight people goes for Shs1.5m.
What to expect
“We have a couple of exciting prizes which we don’t want to reveal now but rest assured that whoever comes for the gala will be amazed (by the prizes),” the chairperson Miss Tourism Uganda Pageants, Irene Zikusooka said adding that they are ready to give Uganda a night to remember.
The girls have composed and recorded a song paying homage to the Pearl of Africa which they will perform at the gala.
Zikusooka has also said that while the judges will be critiquing a range of things including catwalk, sociability and discipline of the girls, the main focus will be on answering the tourism-related questions correctly.
During their road trip the girls experienced the mighty River Nile, sailed on Lake Victoria, trekked Murchison Falls National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Kibaale National Park, Queen Elizabeth before they flew out to experience other countries like Turkey, South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Belgium.
The organisers say the girl who puts to best use the knowledge attained during the three months of trekking, training and boot camp will most certainly win the title.
The pageant has been organised by the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities on the sponsorship card of Daily Monitor, Bavaria, Ruparelia Group of Companies, Darling, MTN Uganda and Bank of Uganda.
