After months of anticipation, Bobi Wine and his family flew to the USA to be part of the premiere of his documentary that took place yesterday.

Dubbed ‘Bobi Wine: The People’s President’ by National Geographic documentary films, it premiered in Beverly Hills with hundreds of people gracing it. Among them was heavyweight boxer Deontay Wilder.

During the premiere, Bobi Wine was asked how he managed to transition from being a pop star to becoming a political icon.

In his response, the National Unity Platform (NUP) president said he also does not know.

“I don’t know. It was a process of growth and reality. I didn’t choose it. It was just a transformation of life,” he said.

Bobi Wine’s documentary directed by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp captures Bobi’s hustle to stardom and his journey into active politics.

It details Bobi Wine’s spectacular rise as it looks at his remarkable story of rags-to-riches. A poor boy from the Kamwokya slum who rose from insignificance to become a celebrated national hero against all odds.

It shows that through music and politics, Bobi Wine has won hearts in Uganda and across the world.

The documentary scooped two awards at the Millenium Documentary Film Festival that ran from March 30 to April 6 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. It won the Audience Prize and the Bronze Goal for Best Film on Human Rights.
