Congolese music is one of the most complicated in the African market mainly because of the style and instrumentation. Their artistes before anything are particular with their instruments while very few can pull off the soukous style. This explains why legendary Congolese musician Awilo Longomba is anticipating how Afrigo Band is going to pull it off come August 5.

Awilo is going to be the headlining act during Afrigo Band’s 48-year celebration concert dubbed “Legends of Sound” concert at Sheraton Kampala Hotel Gardens on August 5, 2023, and Uganda’s oldest band tasked themselves to back him up during his set.

According to Awilo, it is going to be a big challenge but an exciting one to see Afrigo behind him.

“Can you imagine Afrigo playing Techno-Soukous, performing with me on my entire set? It’s a big challenge, but we’re excited to take it on. Uganda, get ready for an electrifying experience,” Awilo said.

Moses Matovu, the band leader and pioneer, also expressed his excitement about the upcoming concert, stating, “It’s an honor to celebrate 48 years of making music with Afrigo Band. The journey has been incredible, and we can’t wait to share all the magic with our fans, along with our friend Awilo.”

The ‘Legends of Sound’ concert, organized by Talent Africa will be a celebration of Afrigo’s remarkable journey and paying tribute to the band’s enduring legacy and its significant contributions to Uganda’s musical landscape.
