There are different types of fights, some happen in the boardroom, some on the streets – Nameless

Nameless

Video clips of comedian Eric Omondi making rounds on social media show him being beaten up and thrown into a police car in Kenya. This was after he chained himself to Parliament over unfair media airplay.

Omondi demanded that local media channels play 75 percent of local content. He vowed to embark on a hunger strike until parliament passes a tabled bill, The Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2021, in support of local music.

“I’m here to champion local music to be played on all media stations. I’m here to ensure they pass that bill,” Omondi said.

“Last time I was here and even today, no artiste has come to show solidarity, and yet I’m fighting for their cause. I will chain myself here and (go on) a hunger strike until something is done about this issue,” Omondi claimed.

With Nameless in Uganda to headline a charity show tomorrow at Kololo Airstrip, he was asked why they left Omondi to fight for the whole industry.

In his reply, the ‘Nasinzia’ artiste said they are all fighting for the same cause only that some people prefer taking their fight to the streets.

“There are many injustices in Kenya’s entertainment industry starting with copyright among others but some fights are diplomatic while others happen in boardrooms. Unfortunately, Eric takes the rough fights,” he said.
