Ankole cultural leaders and traditionalists have combined efforts to make sure they uplift Ankole’s cultural heritage and tradition by organizing traditional cultural dance and drama competitions to engage the young generation in social customs and norms.
According to Mr Herbert Tushabe the Executive Director of Amity Realtors and the owner of the competition, the intention of organising the cultural competition is to promote culture and give cultural performers a chance to earn.
“We intend to promote talent, and culture and also give an opportunity and platform for cultural performers to earn. We identified this niche as this kind of talent that is not always promoted yet important, so we had to invest in it as a way of giving back to the community,” says Mr Tushabe.
Those talented in traditional dance and drama, singing folks, and those who have a clue at playing musical instruments like guitar and Fido and other cultural entertainments are eligible to participate in the competition in the search for the best in Western Uganda. According to competition organizers, the winners will go home with a plot of land and indigenous cows.
