Madoxx Ssematimba on stage
Maddox Ssematimba was the first artiste to perform at the inaugural Roast and Rhyme event seven years ago at Jahazi Pier Munyonyo. On Sunday evening, he returned on the same stage as the headlining act at the 17th edition of the Bell Lager-sponsored event during a buzz of activities, enjoyments, and live music experiences.
The ‘Namagembe’ star was however not the only performer at this event. Nutty Neithan, Rickman, Double Black band, and Bella also shared the stage with Maddox.
The picnic-themed experience that happened for the first time this year, brought together friends and families by the lakeside to unwind, catch up and share memories over some grilled meat.
The experience started with some light showers which luckily, didn’t kill the vibe for the party-going revelers who made their way to Jahazi Pier as early as 10 am.
From then on, several people were seen roasting different kinds of meat from pork, chicken, goat, and rabbit meat among others while others just sat in groups involved in different conversations.
Outside the venue, a long line of vehicles was visible until 9 pm and it took over an hour from Wavah’s residence to the venue for those who were driving despite the effectiveness of the Swangz Avenue team at the ticket selling points.
Performances started at 6 pm with the double black band giving the audience the best covers, mostly reggae.
Rickman performed for about 30 minutes
Rickman then followed next and performed for about thirty minutes doing songs such as ‘Tunyumilwe’, Bango’, ‘Tusimbude’, and ‘Ayizulu’.
Nutty Neithan elevated the crowd excitement
Nutty Neithan who has been off the scene for some time now showed class when he got onto the stage. He made people sing and dance along to his songs including ‘Bakuwe Kyonwa’, ‘Omunyo’, ‘Kwata Ecuupa’, ‘Binkubye’, ‘Banyigawa’, and ‘Walk to Work’ among others.
The surprise of the night was when Queen Bella emerged on stage. Some people could not recognize her until she started singing some of her hits like ‘Dodo’, ‘Faasi’ and ‘Kikili’.

At 9 pm, Maddox’s band took to the stage before he ushered the evening away into a reggae and dancehall music winddown session with songs like ‘Wowote’, ‘Kankulage’, ‘Omukwano’, ‘Omwani Nomukyala’, ‘Munakyalo’ and the people’s favorite ‘Namagembe’.
When he was done, DJ Mercy took it up with different mixes as the crowd left at leisure.
