Musicians asked to be careful with renditions

Kato Lubwama

Entertainer turned politician Kato Lubwama has asked musicians to be careful while selecting classical songs for a remake.

Appearing on Spark TV, Lubwama said all the artistes who have redone Fred Ssebatta’s songs have ruined them. Giving Sheebah and Daddy Andre as an example, Kato Lubwama said Andre’s production skills are not fit to produce local music. He said Andre is good at urban music. Sheebah and Daddy Andre re-did Fred Ssebatta’s ‘Sam Wange’ in 2022 and it wasn’t well received by the audience.

“Musicians should have a limit, you should understand the kind of music you want to remake. You don’t dare remake Mariam Ndagire’s music because you can’t cope with it,” he said.

Speaking about Eddy Kenzo’s mocking remarks on the late Philly Bongole Lutaaya, Kato Lubwama listed musicians; the late Philly Bongole Lutaaya, the late Jimmy Katumba, the late Christopher Ssebadduka, the late Elly Wamala, Moses Matovu, and Deo Mukungu as musicians who should be respected by Kenzo.
