Esther Nakaziba embarks on building Special Effects makeup industry

In a bid to strengthen the values in culture through makeup art, film makeup artist Esther Nakaziba has organized a film and makeup exhibition for film makeup artists in Uganda to showcase their talents and also promote Special Effects makeup.

Speaking to sQoop, Esther explained that she wants to change the mindset of people who are focused on beauty makeup. “Gaza land is known to be a place with many talented makeup artists but many of them don’t know about Special effects yet they would love to learn,” she said

She says many are interested in learning yet few people know about it. This, she says, is lagging behind the makeup art yet the demand is as growing as the Uganda Film Industry.

Those in the film industry understand the demand yet very few people are into special effects makeup. Things usually get complicated for artists who learned from YouTube. Things usually get hard after they are given scripts with demands they don’t understand,” she explained.

Nakaziba continues to explain that the three days exhibition which is slated from March 31- April 2, will be an eye opener expected to make people understand that special effects exist and one can have it as a career.

“Our market is growing so I would love it if special effects artists put in the effort to learn and grow with the film industry. Many girls are jobless and I would advise them, especially young mothers to embrace the idea just like one would embrace tailoring or beauty makeup. I know beauty makeup is in demand because of weddings but I also believe the time for Special Effects is coming because many writers are doing their jobs well and movie shoots are happening,” she said.

She will also use the time to teach people how to market their Art on social media, citing that Uganda is blessed with many talents who don’t know how to market their work.

What is happening right now is sometimes we fail to refer other Special effects makeup artists to our clients because artists don’t know how to market their work. I believe people rank me as the best because of the way I market my work so I want to teach people how they can put themselves out there because social media is part of our capital,” she said.
