In 2018, a new group Kampala Boys, alias B2C staged their first concert at Freedom City. It was two years since the group had taken Kampala by storm with their Tokigeza and later Gutamiza alongside Radio and Weasel.
On that Friday of September 7, 2018, the boys became men.
On Friday, B2C went back to where it all started, this time, they were wiser and better artistes. Of course, the group has had a number of setbacks in their journey, for instance, they changed management and at some point struggled to release new music.
Friday was a testament of the group’s growth both in catalogue and in audience. For instance, the show was slated to start at 7pm, but people started queuing as early as 3pm.
By the time it was 5pm, the venue was visibly filled yet there were more people still making their way to the venue. In fact, it was only the VVIP that was empty but there were no worries, it had been sold out a day before.
At 8:20pm, Maestro Band took to the stage with a group of dancers, but their routine wasn’t meant to last as long. They were meant to get the audience ready for the main act.
The trio of Mr. Lee, Bobby Lash, and Delivad Julio joined the band with an energetic performance that wasn’t only properly choreographed but embraced their abilities of singing and dancing at the same time. For many in the audience, the opening act was already worth every penny that had been spent.
Abbreviated as Born To Conquer, the boys have had a fair share of the news the past few days, thanks to sharing a concert date with Juliana Kanyomozi. At first, some people had argued that their concert would flop but even before the concert started, the audience had proved naysayers wrong.
And to their part, they had done their best to give people that were already in the space and those that were still queuing to get a glimpse of the boys a show worth talking about.
With songs such as Wujja, Wanyonoona, Nyongera and Wansensela, they created a choir of the audience. They sang almost to everything the boys and other performers of the night were singing and the only time they kept quiet was when they responded to a joke of screaming Eddy Kenzo’s name when Rema was on stage.
The group performed in intervals, for instance, after their first session, they gave way to supporting acts who tried to hijack the show. Artistes such as Grenade and Pinky, Carol Nantongo, Rema, Ykee Benda, Aroma Levixone, Pinky, Bruno K, Spice Diana, Zex Bilangilangi among others had a good show, though most of the times wanted to perform for a longer time than they were expected to.
The group closed the show a few minutes to midnight after performing Gwe Weka which tried to re-imagine the video on stage.
