Five arrested for vandalizing police patrol following Pallaso’s failure to perform in Masaka

Pallaso

Police in Masaka City is holding five revelers for allegedly vandalising a police patrol van at a concert where singer Pius Mayanja alias Pallaso failed to perform.

The suspects were arrested during running battles with police and organisers of a Valentine’s Day concert in Masaka City when revelers turned rowdy after Pallaso arrived late for his performance at Maria Flo Hotel Monday.

According to Mr. Muhammad Nsubuga, the southern regional police spokesperson, the Police were forced to fire teargas and live bullets in the air after revelers started breaking hotel property and pelting stones at police.

Mr. Nsubuga said some revelers injured a police officer on duty and also smashed the rear windscreen of a police patrol van Registration Number UP 5561.

He further said that the police are still hunting for other suspects who are still at large for malicious property damage. “As Police, we condemn the incident that left several people injured and properties destroyed, we are still hunting for other suspects that are on the run, for malicious property damage, and when police investigations into the matter are complete, they will be taken to court,” he said in an interview on Tuesday.

Mr. Atanasi  Bazeketta, the proprietor of Maria Flo Hotel, said several plastic chairs were vandalized by the rowdy revealers noting that a section of the crowd became impatient because the organizers of the concert had announced that Pallaso was on the way from Kampala where he had another performance.

“Indeed, Pallaso showed up, but since a sizeable number of revelers had been dispersed by police, he could not perform,” he said

He said they have agreed with the organisers to have another concert next weekend featuring only Pallaso where revelers will pay an entrance fee of only Shs4000, instead of Shs10, 000.
