Nsimbi gives hope in ‘Esuubi’

Nsimbi Duo GNL and Miriam Tamar

Dynamic singing duo Nsimbi made up of rapper GNL and wife Miriam Tamar have always made their intention in the music industry clear. The duo’s aim is to create positive, uplifting art through a celebration of Ugandan/East African sounds. They recently released their first Extended Play (EP) dubbed ‘Infinity’ which depicts exactly that.

The second song on the 5-track ‘Infinity’ EP is ‘Esuubi is a song for hope and the Ubuntu spirit.

The song was written by Miriam & Ernest Nsimbi (GNL Zamba) during the pandemic to uplift the spirits & vibration. We see the effects of the lost business, family, and resources.

“Esuubi”, meaning “hope” in Luganda, is an expression of community strength, resilience and it encourages open dialogue in conversation so others don’t suffer alone. It reminds us that together as humanity, we can be each other’s therapy and source of hope, especially in times when it feels like a hopeless drought.

Visually “Esuubi” incorporates the colors blue, yellow, and red to represent the throat, solar plexus, and root chakras respectively which are most elemental to keep our hope alive. The visuals were shot in the ghettos, bringing out the real message in the lyrics. We see dance plus color and African culture through the dressing. The eye-catching music video was well executed by Grate Make Films.
