The track : Take me – Mr woods

Woods

Woods

Such is the trouble with our music industry that you do not need to simply be good at what you do to gain a following. You at times need to blow people away with something nouvelle, even if it is as silly as singing about rats. That is why you may have already been listening to Mr Woodz’ music, even liking it, without exactly taking notice of the fellow.

This song is a reggae do, a follow up to his even more exciting song, Akaama. It gets the reggae basics – the heavy bass and rhythmic guitar riffs and drums (electronic though they sound) – right and then covers that up with an agreeable set of vocals. It is these vocals that make his song a palatable sound on the chorus lines.

We all know the trouble that befalls many Ugandan musicians who try to sing in English (Big Eye anyone?). Poor fellows sound like they were made to sing while carrying a heavy load up a steep slope. But not for Mr Woodz. He sounds composed and comfortable in his skin as he sings. His subject is romantic love and he is down on his knees, begging a woman for her affection.

Mr Woodz has it going on for sure. Just that you sense he may need to get out of the box a little more if he is to capture the attention of many more music fans.
