The music video :FIRE TONIGHT – REMA

REMA

REMA

The Fire Tonight music video was shot by JahLive and directed by Frank Ja.  It begins off with Rema showing some resemblance to Whitney Houston while standing on top of a yellow car with the word Fire written on it.

The video fails on maintaining the lighting. It keeps on getting over-lit at some points which affects its visual quality. The sexy dimpled Rema in trying to convey the emotions at a personal level forgets about making the connection with the viewer.

The video lacks that unique selling point, something that would make it identify as a Ugandan video. Like many Ugandan videos, it lacks the cultural identity and not even the location brings out the picture. I also did not get the point of the barbs of wire strung over poles.  The story-line of the video (if there was any) is not telling anything, except for a few male models in the video.

On a brighter side, the video showcases Rema in a wide range of costumes. She changes from black, to pink, and purple which showcases versatility on the part of the wardrobe. The smoke effect is well regulated.  The dance choreography of the girls is appealing. Rema’s hair is strikingly attractive in the video. The video brings out the star image that Rema possesses.  This is particularly well executed by the close-up shots of her beautiful face.  The video comes off as sleek and trippy, thanks to the colour grading. The audio moves in sync with the visuals

For the three and half minutes that the video lasts, it is much of Rema. Nothing new is brought into the video. Having Eddy Kenzo featured in the video would have made it more charming. It deserves a 3/5 rating.
