Different and weird is the best way to describe this movie. It’s a love story like none other. Its story line is so strange that you will watch it to the end. But first, though the DVD cover rates this as PG 15, though I think it should be at least PG 20 because of the sexual content. This is a science fiction set in the future, when everything including who you fall in love with is determined for you, based on genetic compatibility.
If the DNA analysis shows that you are 50 per cent or more genetically related then you can’t get intimate. Engaging in any such activities is a violation of Code 46. In case there’s a pregnancy it is terminated and the memory of the lovey dovey moments erased. The main character William (Tim Robbins), an insurance fraud investigator is sent to Shanghai to catch a thief Maria (Samantha Morton) and he falls in love with her. Their affair leads into a violation of Code 46. They come up with ways to evade the law but just when they thought they had succeeded, they get involved in a cat and mouse chase that ends up with an ending that will make you frown.
