Four One One

I don’t believe in waiting for handouts from a man

Carol Flower is a TV host of GXP, a gospel show on NTV. She is also the chief executive officer of Fezabu Unisex Salon. She shares how she manages tasks during the week.

Monday:
Before the Covid-19 pandemic happened, I would be up by 4:30am because I had to drop children to school. My day starts with preparing breakfast for my family and attending to children’s needs. I then prepare myself and head to the salon. I spend about four hours supervising staff and styling clients’ hair. I always have business meetings scheduled for Monday, where we discuss music, fashion and charity, among other issues. As a woman, I don’t believe in waiting for handouts from a man because no man likes a lazy woman.

Tuesday & Wednesday:
I have follow up meetings with teams where I get updates on business strategies. I also meet clients all day. I have taught my children how to be in charge of the home when I am away. I don’t expect people to wait on me to get things done at home.

Thursday & Friday:
Besides television shoots and salon, I started a foundation – Redefining Generations, which focuses on persons with disabilities (PWDs), particularly albinos. I advocate for their rights and make people appreciate that they are human beings who deserve to be treated with respect. I reach out to them, visit them in Jinja where I want to focus first and fundraise for them. I pay tuition for a number of them and often times, I check on their progress.

Saturday:
Saturdays are my busiest days. I have to ensure that the brides at the salon are set and ready. It gets worse when we have three sets of brides. I find myself multitasking. Later in the day, I head to NTV to do preparation for the gospel show. Covid-19 has taught us to get work done virtually, so I sometimes write my own scripts and run downs, and share with the producer. I also do shopping for the home on Saturdays.

Sunday:
I host an early morning gospel show on NTV. After the show, I spend time with family, bake cakes and make special meals. In my free time, I spend time on the internet reading real life stories.
