According to the World Health Organization, there is a woman who dies of cervical cancer every after two minutes. That is one of the reasons why Health Aid found it imperative to hold a comedy show in which proceeds are aimed at fundraising for cancer patients staying in hostels.

The comedy show dubbed ‘Funny 4 Cancer’ happened last Saturday at National Theatre with over ten comedians lined up to entertain the audience but despite Pablo and Daniel Omara not showing face, the rest of the entertainers gave the crowd a memorable show with Patrick Salvador Idringi being the headlining act.

“Ehh nga you are too many…..” he started with his performance, referring to the low turn up in the audience but that didn’t stop him from having a blast. He joked about how he recently had an introduction and one lady in the audience shouted at this and in retaliation, he told her to stay in her lane because she is not his wife. He joked of how his father in law after seeing many celebrities at the function wanted to add him Daphine’s sister. “These are people the old man never thought of seeing in real life. He only sees them on TV,” he added.

The self-proclaimed ‘man from Ombokolo’ went on joking about relationships, sexual appeals and so on but he wasn’t the only impressive comedian on the lineup that had twelve people.

There were performances from a number of comedians including Dr Hilary Okello who joked that on some functions, you will find one person who will ask for everything that is being served but somehow after settling down to eat, the stomach will adjust itself and you will see him asking neighbors if they are vegetarians and Timothy Nyanzi, another upcoming comedian joked that Ugandan musicians are always tormented by their names and things they do, giving an example of how Khalifa Aganaga held a ‘4 by 4’ concert resulting to sixteen people attending. He also went on and said Gravity Omutujju can never board a plane because he has two elements that can never be allowed on a plane. ‘Gravity and Omutujju (terrorist).

Besides the above mentioned, other comedians that performed included Living Thomas, Ceaser Oyo, Don Andre, Mudhaasi, Okello Okello, Collins Emeka,Oj and Uncle Mark. But one thing we noticed is that there was no female comedians on the list and this didn’t go down well with some people in the audience as some lady was heard complaining of gender balance.

According to Agnes Agwang, the Executive Director of Health Aid Uganda, they want this event to be annual at least on world cancer day. “Being the first of its kind, we would like to see it happening more often on cancer day which takes place on the 4th of February. We are going to make sure that every penny is used for a good purpose. At least it will be used to transport somebody back home,” she said about the event.
