The music video: Fantastic – Radio and Weasel

There is no better way to review Goodlyfe videos than putting the volume on mute. With the audio on, one may be “bribed” into thinking the video is perfect because their audio is always on point. We did this with the Fantastic video and with the audio off. All, that one sees, are two wanna-be thugs (Radio and Weasel) trying to escape from some bad guys. One of them is draped in his signature red jacket.

Suddenly they find themselves trapped in a room of strike-a-pose size nine models splashing coconut or milk on themselves. The two goons are finally wound up with ropes and punished by some muscular fellows.

The location and the audio were perfect, plus Michael Kasaija and his dancers were well tonned, but their dancing moves were uncoordinated motions.

The video was shot by South African firm Tough Sunday and though Fantastic has this great lighting, it still fails to impress with colour. Maybe it was a deliberate move to colourise it with a dull brownish shade to match the “thugs on the run” theme, but we Ugandans love colour. The only moments it comes to life are the close-shot up of Radio and Weasel’s faces. The cuts in Fantastic are fast and you get a feeling they are two fast for the song. The video is not as fantastic as the song.
