Ugandan film on Rwandan genocide bags international award

94 Terror a film by local film-maker Richard Mulindwa was last night decorated at The African Film Festival (TAFF) award night in Dallas- Texas USA as it walked away with the best costume award in the 2019 TAFF festival. Released in 2018, the Film that was also awarded at Uganda Film Festival (UFF) establishes a story about a young woman Keza whose family was murdered in her sight and she escaped with the help of mates from a rival tribe.

In the film Shema a Hutu, Mutesi a Tutsi and the rest, together they brave a risky journey to escape to Uganda. The film that features a story on 1994 Rwanda genocide was among the only two Ugandan films which were awarded at The African Film Festival (TAFF) with Claire Nampala’s ‘The Forbidden’ walking away with the best screenplay award. Claire Nampala noted that with the nomination of Ugandan Films in The African Film Festival, the film industry will be set to Kick off. She went ahead and called out government and other stakeholders to support the Ugandan Film Industry.

Among other Ugandans that were nominated at The African Film Festival (TAFF) awards included  actress Dianah Tanzi alias Dianah Nabatanzi, Director Zziwa Aaron, Mathew Nabwiso, Samuel Saviour Kizito and actress Nodryn Avanci. Ugandan Film ‘The Forbidden’ scooped three (3) nominations for the Best Actress (Leilah Nakabira), Best Screenplay (Samuel Saviour Kizito and actress Nodryn Avanci) and film Director Zziwa Aaron was nominated for best film director for his film ‘Twisted Minds’ where also actress Dianah Nabatanzi was for best actress.
