Increasing Teenage Mothers worry Busoga Kingdom leaders

Kampala. Officials from Busoga kingdom have decried the increasing cases of the teenage mothers which has enhanced the number of school drop-outs in the sub-region.

Yudaya Babirye Kigenyi, the minister for Kyabazinga affairs in Busoga Kingdom told Daily Monitor that there are many cases of young mothers which has not only crippled the Kingdom’s education sector but also created negative reporting about the girl child in Busoga.

 

She said with the efforts created by the kingdom that has seen them educate over 6000 girls, a lot needs to be done to forge a future for the teenage mother victims and also move to curb the increasing cases.

 

Babirye unveiled that the kingdom will be holding a paid royal bouquet at Igenge palace where the proceeds will go to the rescue of young mothers.

“We are planning to build a rehabilitation centre to talk to young mothers who usually get traumatized and rejected in communities. We have also partnered with parents, schools and community leaders to carry out sensitization” she added

 

Osman Ahmed Noor, the 2nd prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom revealed that the kingdom through an initiative dubbed Kyabazinga Girl Child initiative, will weigh in to curb teenage pregnancies through sensitization programmes, engaging parents and other stake holders.

 

Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte through MTN CSR programme handed over a shs 50 million cheque to sponsor the Kyabazinga Girl Child programme.

Mr. Ahmed  who received Shs 50 million from the telecom company to support the initiative noted that the Kingdom is doing all what it can to come to the rescue of the situation though they are still held by funds and he called upon stake-holders and concerned citizens to sponsor the programme.

 

He revealed that Kyabazinga Girl Child initiative through His Royal Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Nadiope IV has partnered with reigning Miss Uganda Ms. Quinn Abenakyo to leverage on her achievements to support the girl Child in Busoga Kingdom.

 

Wim Vanhelleputte applauded the Kybazinga for being a model leader and for his efforts at being keen to the population affected with challenges of unemployment with the brunt of the disadvantages adversely affecting the girl child.
