Last week, Miss World Africa Quinn Abenakyo visited and excited Girls in Kamuli urging them to stay in school while maintaining dignity of the girl child.

She spoke to girls at Starlight Primary School where she gave out PLE leaving certificates before heading to Kamuli Girls College where she launched a Girls Advocacy Club. Accompanied by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, Abenakyo who stepped out of a Police helicopter waved to the excited girls.

The pupils who were inspired kept asking Abenakyo several questions of how she made it and how she feel about being where she is.

In a speech delivered in Lusoga and English, Abenakyo said she rose from a little shy girl walking barefoot to school through secondary and university.

“This crown is dedicated to the girl child plight and I will use it to be your voice against child marriage and rally support to keep girls in school so you should stay, complete school and secure your future,” she said.

The Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga assured girls of protection warning them against free lifts, gifts and peer pressure.

Kadaga challenged girls to look out for opportunities, showcase and exploit their talents and live a dignified life using education as value addition.

The day ended with children sharing their different sentiments about Abenakyo’s message.
