Police yesterday said it was stuck with a case in which Maj Gen Kasirye Ggwanga is accused of shooting at singer Catherine Kusasira’s car because the latter has declined to record a statement.
Gen Ggwanga shot at the artiste vehicle on Tuesday night last week in Makindye, a Kampala suburb, and the case was recorded at Katwe Police Station.
Witnesses said the shooting followed a quarrel between Maj Gen Ggwanga’s children and Ms Kusasira’s aides over noise pollution.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday said they had invited Ms Kusasira to record a statement in vain.
“We have repeatedly invited lady singer Kusasira to come and record a statement but up to now, she has not responded. We call upon any other witness to come and give us information,” Mr Enanga said.
In an interview last week, Gen Ggwanga claimed he shot at the vehicle to save lives of the occupants who were drunk.
On the other hand, Ms Kusasira said on arrival at the scene, she had apologised to Gen Ggwanga over her aides’ behaviour.
“I tried to calm him but he was charged and requested for his gun. He said if it had not been me, he would have destroyed the vehicle but that as a way of disciplining me, he would deflate the tyres,” Ms Kusasira was quoted as saying.
Yesterday, she told Daily Monitor that she has sorted the matter with Gen Ggwanga. “I am attending a burial. But that matter has already been sorted. It was a minor case,” Ms Kusasira said.
Nevertheless, Mr Enanga said police will send the file to Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice with or without Ms Kusasira’s statement.
