Singer turned politician Bobi Wine has confirmed he will be running for president, come 2021.
In an interview with CNN last evening, the Kyadondo East Member of Parlaiment said he is “seriously considering” running for president in 2021. He will likely face President Yoweri Museveni who has ruled Uganda since Bobi Wine was only four years old.
“Many people have come to me calling me to stand. We have been discussing this issue with my team and I must say we are seriously considering challenging President Museveni in the next presidential elections,” he told CNN.
Though Museveni has not yet declared his intention to contest in the next elections, he has changed the constitution twice to extend his stay in office.
Bobi Wine in the interview said he has started a campaign calling upon eligible Ugandans, especially the youth to get registered and be voters.
“Ugandans cannot be free unless they free themselves from military rule and lawless rule,” he said.
“We believe that by the time we get to the election which is about two years away, we will have many Ugandans registered as voters and overwhelming Museveni looks like our only way out.”
