I just love to make women happy -Andrew Kyamagero

NTV’s Andrew Kyamagero is an energetic ambitious individual. Besides being a news anchor and presenter, he is motivational speaker, events MC and a big lover of music. He is popular for his Omuntu wawansi slogan that he introduced on the Ugandan scene, writes Isaac Ssejjombwe.

A photo that Andrew Kyamagero shared today.

Briefly describe Kyamagero Andrew?
I am a father of one and a news anchor at NTV. Although I am a Muganda, my command of the English language is impressive which makes it easy for me to communicate easily to all kinds of people.
I have a great sense of humour which has helped me establish myself as a professional master of ceremonies. I am passionate about fighting for the rights of the ordinary citizen aka omuntu wawansi, because he is the answer to most of our society’s challenges.

Tell us about your media journey?
After school I applied for jobs in media houses in Kampala but they all requested for experience which I did not have. Fortunately Best FM in Masaka (the English station for Radio Buddu), gave me an opportunity and it is here that I received my initial training and work experience.
Later, I came back to Kampala and worked at Spirit FM but the experience was not what I expected.

I left for Vision Radio but still, I felt something was missing, so I switched to reading news at Touch FM and Record TV, later Urban TV.
I applied to NTV in 2015 and I was never called but I kept my dream alive. In February 2018 I was called and it was about a morning show. I went through the interviews sessions and I passed. And on April 1, I started working at NTV.

You had made a name for yourself on Galaxy FM. Why did you leave?
I left for an opportunity to advance my career. It is fine to change jobs if you feel it will help you advance in the future even if it is not an immediate promotion.
Sometimes an amazing opportunity comes up that matches perfectly with your interests.

Why NTV?

The station provides people around the world with accurate, balanced and impartial information.
Most media in the country are state-controlled and often unchallenged mouthpieces for the different leaders and governments in the region.
NTV was different, a truly independent voice, with a mission to hear and report the human stories that were otherwise ignored, to cover events with balance and integrity and to hold power to account.
There is a rumor that you are also quitting to join another station. How true is this?

I first heard the rumour while I was in Jinja. I brushed it off but more bloggers were jumping on it like it was true.
The truth is I am working with Balaam on a Radio 4 project but I am not leaving NTV. Actually, such rumours made it evident to me why Noah never saved many people but animals.

A

Are you married?
Yes. I am married to Linda Ndagire and we are blessed with one handsome son Mandela Enzo Kyamagero.

Is it true you are a Casanova?
I am just a liberal minded soul with no hurt motives to all around me. But the way I treat all ladies around me is the cause of this I guess. I hold ladies in the highest regard. It is sad for me when I see one sad and worried.
There is a photo that circulated on social media about you getting excited with an NTV presenter. What really happened?
Lord have mercy! I guess it was all blown out of proportion. Nothing happened, I highly respect colleagues at work, and no one can put me in such a state.

Background
I come from a family of seven, I am the only boy and last born. I went to Hormsdallen, Kirinya Church of Uganda, St.Johns’ Ntebetebe, Mwiri College, Bethel College, Studied theology at Durham University UK, Mass communication at Kampala University.
