Man killed trying to pursue sister’s murderers

KAMPALA.  Police are investigating the murder of a man whose body was found dumped by the roadside in Nsangi, Wakiso District, days after he had reportedly vowed to hunt murderers of his sister.

Huzayiru Mawanda, who was closely following up the killing of his sister, Zulaika Nalubega, was on Monday morning found dead.  According to Nsangi police, Mawanda’s body had deep cuts.

Nalubega was killed on October 7 inside her marital home in Nsaggu Village, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.

She was allegedly killed by her husband after the former accused the latter of having an affair with their maid.

Police say they are hunting the suspect in connection to the killing of his wife.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said there were no signs of resistance at the crime scene pointing to a possibility that Mawanda was killed in a different place and not where the body was recovered from.

Appeal to relatives

“He had no identification documents but his body was taken to Mulago mortuary where the relatives successfully identified it. Unfortunately, relatives have not returned to record statements with  police in Nsangi,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Mr Owoyesigyire said police are investigating the motive of Mawanda’s murder and urged relatives to record statements with Nsangi police to help with the probe.

“We know the key suspect in Nalubega murder and he is still in hiding. We are sure we shall get him any time. However, we are yet to understand whether Nalubega and Mawanda murders are connected,” Mr Owoyesigyire said.

Mawanda was a renowned boda boda rider in Nabbingo.

His friends have reportedly told police that he was called by a person who seemed to be his close friend or relative when watching a football match between Uganda Cranes and Cape Verde on Saturday at Namboole Stadium.

The deceased is said to have rushed to meet the person who had reportedly booked him on the phone during the start of second half.

Mawanda’s wife called his phone in the wee hours of Sunday morning but could not go through. She then alerted her in-laws who joined the hunt for Mawanda until they decided to crosscheck with Mulago mortuary.
