Major Lazer gives Kampala revelers memorable Independence Day gift- PHOTOS

For days and probably remaining months of the year, American electronic dance music trio Major Lazer, will be the talk of music fans in Uganda’s capital Kampala following a memorable show he put up the night before the East African country celebrated 56 years of independence from the British rule.

Despite the trio, which includes record producer Diplo, and DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, jetting into Uganda at about 4:30pm, hours to the event, they managed to pull off a show especially for those who enjoy electronic music.

After their arrival on Monday, they headed for sound check at Sheraton Hotel at about 6pm before the show kicked off at about 8pm. Amidst low and probably bad sound, local artists like A-Pass, Fik Fameica, Mr Silverback, Beenie Gunter came on stage with what most revelers would call average performances.

The CEO Talent of Africa Aly Alibhai defended this saying it was intentional and that the sound would be improved when the main act was on stage. His promise was indeed honoured.

Clad in a Uganda Cranes Jersey, Diplo took on the role hype man as Jillionare and Walshy Fire exchanged the decks. This was indeed a memorable Independence night gift for revelers.

Diplo left most revelers thrilled with an original composition for Ugandans that had Ugandan signature words like boda boda and chapatti. They played their worldwide famous hits like Lean on, Cold water, Watch out for dis, Boom, Light it up, Pon the floor among others.

The party went on till midnight and was crowned with one or their most famous songs to Ugandans titled “Particular.”

The show was worth every penny as revelers expressed their satisfaction as they gave endless rounds of applause to the trio.
