Tears as three contestants are booted from Miss Uganda pageant

The emotional out pour was a constant throughout the two-hour Miss Uganda elimination process. Three contestants were dropped, sizing down the list of contenders to 20, from 23.
Caroline Abigail Akol from Soroti, Elizabeth Atuhaire from Kampala and Tereza Najjalwambi from Kampala were eliminated yesterday.

On Wednesday, this week, two more contestants will be eliminated. This will leave 18 contestants for the crown. The queens saved Leah Kwakunda and Patricia Nakaayi.

“In Miss Uganda, there are winners and bigger winners but not losers,” Brenda Nanyonjo, one of the judges and franchise holder of Miss Uganda told the contestants.

Still, there were more napkins shared as tension heightened among the girls vying for the top crown come August 10, 2018. Other judges are former Miss Uganda queens, Phiona Bizzu, Sylvia Namutebi, Stellah Nantumbwe, National Basketball team captain Flavia Flirsh and communication specialist Rachael Mwagale.

“At every stage, there is a winner and loser. You can choose to be a winner by picking lessons to prepare for something else. Life is about what you can pick from every situations. If you are here and fear it might be over for you, it is not over yet. You have made friends,” Flavia told the contestants minutes before the elimination.

At the call of Miss Uganda contestant this year, 200 girls turned up to vie for the crown. The elimination process is ongoing. The remaining 20 contestants will be tussling it out a series of sports challenges on Wednesday before two more contestants are eliminated.
Leah Kagasa is reigning Miss Uganda and has held the crown for two years owing to the fact that the pageant did not take place last year.
