Social media tax protest: Bobi Wine survives arrest, mocks Police

Singer and parliamentarian Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, who earlier today led a demonstration against the new social media tax narrowly survived arrest by Police.

Police attempted to arrest Bobi Wine, but his supporters successfully defended him and he arrived at parliament where he addresed other Members of Parliament.

“Am told The police is looking for me. Am here at parliament, come and get me,” Bobi Wine tweeted minutes after escaping the snapping jaws of the police officers.

“…there’s no amount of bullets, teargas or arrests that will stop us. Some of our colleagues have been beaten up and others arrested. They must be freed for they have nothing against the police but rather the terrible tax,” he also posted.

Scores of protesters marched towards parliament, with the rally turning chaotic as a large group of market vendors and motorcycle taxi drivers faced off against police in anti-riot gear, with some lobbing stones at the officers.

Bobi Wine was accompanied by fellow singers Dr Hilderman, A Pass and media personalities including Raymond Mujuni and Joel Senyonyi.

Bobi Wine later thanked all the people that took part in the protest.

“I would like to thank whoever came through and added a voice to the struggle against the unfair taxation. The police fought so hard to arrest me but the power of the people overpowered them….” he tweeted.
