I can speak Patois from morning to morning- Beenie Gunter

Beenie Gunter

Beenie Gunter

Local dancehall musician Beenie Gunter is known mostly for his energetic stage performances of songs heavily loaded with patois.

Some of his fans have, however, been heard grumbling about whether he speaks and sing ‘real patois’ but yesterday, he came out and said the dialect synonymous with Jamaicans was actually the real deal.

“I became interested in Patois while I was in Primary Three after listening to Beenie Man,” Gunter told a group of youth during an MTN- Career Expo in Kampala yesterday. The career day expo was organised as part of MTN’s 21 days of Y’ello Care. “Right now I can speak patois from morning to morning without stopping. I am self-taught and I took years to learn.”

Gunter also advised the youth to believe in themselves if they are to become successful in life.

“I am living off music because I am living my dream. One day my girlfriend told me she was waiting for the day I will inspire people. And today here I am talking to fellow youth about making it in life. You can be anything you want to be in life as long as you believe in yourself and God.”

I have believed in myself and surrounded myself with people who matter and that is how I manage to make my today be better than yesterday.
