Justine Nameere Sued over Shs55m

The year 2018 seems not to be a good year for Justine Nameere as trouble keeps crawling her way.

Former NTV presenter has been sued at the Commercial Court for allegedly failing to refund Shs55m to a friend she had sold her car to, before he realised that she had used it as collateral for credit.

According to court documents Sqoop has seen, the accuser, Emmanuel Muwonge, through his lawyers, Lubega and Company Advocates, claims that in June 2017, Nameere sold him a Mercedes Benz with plate number UBA 396S at a cost of Shs55 million which he paid her in cash as per the agreement.

However, the TV personality allegedly requested to be left with the said vehicle for one week such that she can complete her work-related activities using the said vehicle and thereafter hand it back Muwonge.

After one week, Nameere indeed handed over the car.
Muwonge claims that as he was in the process of transferring the vehicle at URA offices, he discovered that there was an encumbrance of caveat by Platinum Credit (U) Ltd lodged on the car logbook.

He avers that he was not aware that Nameere had, during the period of one week before handover of the said car, pledged it with a financial company called Platinumz Credit (U) Ltd.

He says, through his lawyers, he wrote to Platinumz to remove the caveat or advise Nameere to refund all the purchase price but the credit company refused.

“The plaintiff met the defendant sometime in 2017 and she agreed to refund the whole purchase price. But after several and repeated reminders, the defendant has since then failed, neglected and/or refused to pay hence this suit,” reads part of the court document.

Muwonge further states that a notice of intention to sue was duly communicated to Nameere and the same was ignored.

He wants court to order Nameere to refund Shs55m and interest of 25 per cent on the said money from date of default until full payment, costs of the suit and any other relief that court deems fit.
