Four local artistes have joined hands to campaign against child marriages that are still rampant in the country. The musicians who have teamed up for this noble cause include Geosteady, Natty Nathan, Naava Grey and Mun G.
The musicians have composed a song titled Kaleke (leave the girl/boy) cautioning men and women to leave girls and boys complete school before they are lured into marriage that comes along with challenges like child pregnancies.
The song was sampled on Tuesday at the launch of a five year campaign against child marriage by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Ministry of Health at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala an event graced by Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.
Geosteady explained that they came up with a song because music is one of the major channels messages are delivered to the audience and a song can be played, listened to and watched several times as opposed to a single speech.
UFPA’s implementing partner Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) through the communications officer, Waiswa Batambuze, said the campaign will be rolled out in Northern Uganda, Karamoja and Eastern regions where cases of child marriage and teenage pregnancies are still very high.
