Meat Meets Music at Swangz Avenue’s Roast and Rhyme

Sunday was the day for Irene Ntale, Babaluku and Allan Tonix to put their live music skills to the test at the second coming of Roast and Ryhme hosted in Munyonyo at Jahazi Pier. This time Uganda Breweries were on board and in particular their new Black Bell which meant that soda was being replaced with beer!

1st was a chance for revelers to test their grilling and roasting skills as many turned up with grills and the local “sigiri” to make some nyama choma as the kids were running around playing football and and enjoying the bouncing ccastles set up for them.

“Roast and Rhyme”, a brain child of Swangz Avenue, is a family event that happens quarterly and the second edition of “Roast and Rhyme” was Dubbed “Soul on Strings”.

At around 6:33pm the MC on the day Roger Mugisha hit the stage to usher us into part two of the event

Allan Toniks was first on stage. All his hit songs one by one but this time with Allan playing a giutar backed up by a band and two female back up artists. from “oli kumulamwa”, tukyekole to the crowds favourite “Itaano” that got the crowd off their feet and forced Allan off the stage down to join them in the folk dance “ekitaguuro“.

The mood was then set. Next on stage was the grand father of ugandan Hip hop aka “Luga Flow” Babaluku Neither did he disappoint for the lovers of hip hop the Luganda version. By then all the who is who in the entertainment world were clearly in attendance with their loved ones and friends roasting, drinking and getting ready to ryhme with the song bird.

At around 9pm it was time for Irene Ntale to take centre stage and crowd went ecstatic upon her arrival on stage. it was officially time to put the muchomo aside to sing and dance. “Sembera”“Langi Mpya”“Olindaba”“Nkubukinze” in versions never heard before!. By the time she got to Gwe Aliko every one in attendance was on their feet. it was a wrap and a Sunday evening well spent with the loved ones and friends.
