GOING PLACES: The Uganda entertainment field is well represented in music, film and dance but one field that is not doing so well is ‘Dance’ which has a few people representing and among them is Eddie Wizzy who is fast becoming a force to reckon with. He has featured in videos, choreographed and even earned nominations for international awards.

Who is Eddy Wizzy and where did that name come from?
Eddie Wizzy is a focused, determined, creative, professional dancer.
My real name is Edgar Matte so Eddie comes from Edgar then Wizzy means ‘24/7 sober mind’.

Of all careers, why dancing?
Dancing is my talent and it’s what I earn from.

Where did you learn to dance from?
I didn’t learn how to dance. Whenever I listen to music, I find myself dancing though I developed my dancing skills from pastor Kayanja’s church at Miracle center Rubaga.

What is your best music to dance to?
I dance to all kind of music but particularly Afro beat.

How grateful are you for this profession?
I’m so grateful for this career because I have travelled a lot around the world through dance; I have met a lot of big names like Wizkid, Harry Song, Yami alade, Patoranking, Diamond Platnumz and the Kabaka of Buganda to mention a few.
I have also been nominated in Afrimma as Africa’s Best Dancer

Which videos have you featured in?
I have featured in a lot of big videos like ‘Be happy’, ‘Viva Africa’ and ‘Disco Disco’ by Eddy Kenzo, Sheeba’s ‘By da way’ and ‘Nipeyote’, ‘Simunino’ by Goodlyf, ‘ Dance well’ by Patoranking, and ‘Bukolomoni’ by Cindy and many more.

What challenges do you face as a dancer?
The main challenge is that dance is under looked in the industry so far. We haven’t been appreciated at all.
How much do you charge to feature in a video?
I charge Shs500k to appear in a music Video, Shs300k to choreograph, dancer Shs600k for a show, parties and concerts while I charge Shs1.5million to do a dance prom video.

What is with that hair style?
It is called the ‘Bach dread hair’. It is in a promotional term called Branding and being Unique.

Where was Eddy Wizzy before all this dancing?
Before the world knew him for dancing, Eddie Wizzy was at Lubiri Secondary School finishing up his studies.

Apart from dancing, do u have anything else you do or you entirely depend on dancing?
I’m a professional dancer. As I said, I’m focused and determined doing this so dance is the only thing I look at for now.

What really happened with the deal you were supposed to have with Patoranking?
We never reached an agreement with Patoranking. He wanted to sign me up for 10 years which was a long time so I turned down that contract.
