The first time I listened to Musawo by Winnie Nwagi, I was quite impressed by both the song and her vocal ability.
Then of course she started releasing more songs after that, steadily building her fan base. Things seemed to be heading in the right direction for her, right?
Then somehow, someone out of nowhere found it necessary to take us all years back into the artiste’s life by flashing all the skeletons in her closet for all and sundry.
These have been doing rounds for the past few days coupled with old photos, stories, insinuations about this and that mainly to do with a seemingly dark past.
Ahem! The whole situation reminds me of that popular saying by famous Hollywood actor Johnny Depp that goes, “One day the people that didn’t believe in you will tell the world how they met you”.
I mean where are such annoying people when one is busy hustling to make it to the top only for them to show up and just ruin things for them? What is wrong with the world and letting people be? Why are people so obsessed with tying one down to their past even when they live in the present?
What is it that itches another so bad that the best gift they can give to one fighting hard to make it in life, is a resurrection of the person they used to be just to taint their image? Is it really that hard for us to just be happy about each other’s achievements? Is it that people are just so insecure of their own places that they live to hate the sight of another that has moved on to the right path in life? I just don’t get it.
On several occasions, we come across situations where the world tries so hard to bring others down by throwing in a thing or two about the person they used to be. Its even worse if they are in the lime light. All hell breaks lose. Many feign stories and claim to know the said victims even when they have never been as close as just exchanging a hello.
Its good that Winnie Nwagi has come out to try and address some of these issues.
A journey through her past, pictures of her old self are just totally uncalled for. In fact this whole thing of tying one to their past as if we are all perfect is hypocritical, a waste of time and a selfish act altogether!
