Serenity: There are times when all you want is to listen to the sound of waterfalls and smell the clouds in the morning. If a holiday in the countryside is what you are looking for, then this will be a good bargain. Denis Mukungu writes.
When you drive through the wooden gate at Sipi River Lodge in Kapchorwa District, a deafening silence welcomes you. As you proceed to the bar section, you are welcomed by a well-kept lawn and clearly designated walk ways.
Sipi River Lodge is the true definition of tranquility and serenity. While there, you do not want to leave.
At the lodge, there are two sitting areas for guests; the exterior section is a beautiful and relaxing scenery, with an almost full view of one of the three spectacular water falls at Sipi, the Kapsururu Falls. Plus, you can enjoy your coffee, tea, quick snack or meal at the terrace. Its interior section has an African touch added to it, making it calm and relaxing.
The Sipi Falls and a beautiful scenery is some of what you will get when you spend time at Sipi River Lodge.
The menu offers a fair variety. There is a continental buffet and al carte, sandwiches, a wide range of cocktails and juices. At the bar is a selection of about 14 different whiskies. Rick Barley, the lodge’s general manager, says, “We try and keep a stock of eight or more of our favourite single malts. It’s a great choice to have one on a cold evening after a full day of hiking.”
For a local tourist or guest, the prices are somewhat expensive and unfavourable.
“Our prices are fixed in dollars because we don’t want to change them so often,” Barley says.
Sipi River Lodge serves breakfast and brunch, as well as lunch and dinner. It also offers a variety of accommodation styles. The bandas have unparalleled views of Kapsururu Falls. Each banda can be set with either a giant double bed or two twin beds, with a shared bathroom and shower facilities.
