The music video: Nkwatako – sheebah

sheba

If you are a guy and your girlfriend can’t even dance to this video, is she your girlfriend? If you are a girl, and you have a boyfriend and this video plays but you don’t dance to it, is he your boyfriend? Nkwatako represents everything that is visual perfection. Should we call it the template for a great song and a great music video? Or maybe that is an underestimation, maybe it is much more. It could be the peak of how a video does everything, with so little or nothing to say.
First, the video has one location. That usually implies monotony, but not when Uganda’s Rihanna a.k.a Sheebah is working with Sasha Vybz as a video director. As such, the rules don’t seem to apply to them; they bend them at will and give birth to a video that keeps you gripped to the end. Could it be that Sheebah brings on her full force as a renaissance artiste? She gets sensual; she’s an attestation of a powerful visual seductress. But then she dances like she means it, she naturally bonds with Pati of the Willi Willi dance fame. Together they create the yin-yang of dance choreography, a seamless flow of feminine and masculine energy.
What about the vintage cars that evoke a passé-nostalgia in the viewer! Certainly as you watch this video, you feel like there is no distance. You virtually become part of it. The ripple effects that it sends over put you in a trance of unequaled eye-gasms. This video just re-defined music videos in Uganda; it represents an idea, an art that breaks down walls, an art that makes the viewer want to replay. It is not just a music video; it’s a philosophy of art, dance and entertainment all in sync with regulated night lighting and hippy costumes.
