Lens business: After a short stint in Qatar, Michael Kaddu was inspired to start his own studio. Five years down the road, his investment is his pride.
What is the name of your studio and when did you open shop?
My studio is called Lovipix and I started it at the end of 2010.
Where did you get the money to start up such a big studio?
I have done many jobs before. For example, I have done modelling, acting, music, worked at a studio on Martin Road and I was also a dancer. After doing all that, I went to Qatar and worked for a company called Qatar 2022 as the assistant graphic designer before returning to start my own business.
What services do you offer at Lovipix Studio?
We deal in photography and videography. We take a variety of pictures and shoot videos for different occasions.
Why did you get interested in such a business?
The love for art and the experience I have in this kind of work pushed me to do this business.
What drives this business?
Marketing and quality delivery, customer care and time management. Our motto is reflection of memories. We turn memories into reality.
Where is this studio located and why did you choose it?
We are situated in Najjanankumbi on Entebbe Road near Shell Kaazi (Milambi). We chose that location because the rent is manageable and we have ready market for our services. Also, the city is congested.
How much do you charge for your services at Lovipix?
It depends on the nature of job at hand. We charge differently, according to different services. For example, standard photos range from Shs2,000 to Shs230,000, depending on the size. The charges for wedding photography range from Shs150,000 to Shs650,000, while a photo book album costs from Shs950,000 to Shs1.9m.
What challenges are you facing in this business?
High revenue, clients taking long to pay for services and also delaying to pick their work, which fills our archives.
