The long-awaited Nkwagala video finally came out this month. Francis Mugerwa of Jahlive took charge as the director and he did not disappoint. The Nkwagala video starts off at this location where Mowzey Radio is atop this prehistoric building of sorts, going by the architectural designs.
It is basically a video about the future, shot in the past. It conveys Radio’s concerns and worries about getting dumped by his girlfriend and how his life would turn around for the worse. The lighting of choice, darkened on purpose brings out these emotions of nostalgia mixed with paranoia about the future.
Subtly, the viewer finds themselves being pulled into the video, capturing every scene and relating it to their own personal lives. The video keeps shifting between different locations. One of the locations features a lonely Radio in all-white clothing sending out his romantic message. We then get to the next inside location where this young couple lets the body language do the talking.
The actual sync of the video and audio happens at the chorus part. We are presented with a fervently charged Radio in a red jacket surrounded by all band musical instruments. He also strings on his guitar as he confesses his undying love for this girl.
The video ends with the couple taking a quick dance in the living room of their house. They then climb the stairs, arm in arm, letting the viewer to figure out what happens next. Nkwagala is a memorable video on all aspects; it’s not crowded with extra extras. Radio plays out the lion share of the scenes. It is a minimalistic video that says much with less visuals, characters and effects. Though it is a four-minute video, and though it repeats most of the scenes, it is devoid of monotony.
