Fashion:Colour blocking

The only rule with this trend is that there are no rules. So go ahead and make bold fashion statements.

It may be cliché that colours can make or break your wardrobe. But that doesn’t make it any less true. The latest way to make your outfit hot is to actually break it down into colours, a trend known as colour blocking in fashion circles. Simply explained, colour blocking is the style of wearing an outfit made of two or more solid blocks of colours.

Forget combining dark bottoms with light tops, colour blocking actually means making both colours clearly stand out and it does not restrict one to keep it only to complimentary colours. If anything, the first rule of colour blocking is throwing out all the lessons you have picked along the way, of playing it safe with colours.

The trend is best for those looking to make a fashion statement, a bold one at that since one can wear more than two bold colours in one outfit and still look great. Think a full on pink bottom with a white top and wide blue belt to boot. The only rule in colour blocking is in fact to throw out all the colour rules.

You can have a dress made of two or three colours, or wear tops and bottoms in any two colours that catch your fancy on the colour wheel if you please. That doesn’t mean the shrinking ivy cannot still wear this trend. You can also colour block muted colours, like black and blues, purples and olive greens just as well as you can screaming ones.

Just make sure the cuts of the clothes remain classic clean. Flounces and frills do not help the already busy outfit. Whether you choose eye popping brights that clash on the colour wheel or toned down ones, you can use this trend to accentuate your best features while down playing what you think isn’t so flattering.

Just remember to only block with colours of the same intensity. That is rich colours with other rich colours, pastels with pastels, jewel tones with other jewel tones….. you get the idea.
