BRAIN GAMES: The quiz night tickles patrons’ brains and allows them to network in a laid back environment, writes Edgar R. Batte.
Every Thursday starting 6pm, a group of friends and patrons gather at Daytona Bar and Grill, at Quality Shopping Village Naalya. It is not for the usual drinks and bites but to test their knowledge on a number of subjects. It is through a quiz night sponsored by Mitchie’s Crunchy Maize Snacks.
The subjects of the quiz varies every week with a diversity of categories ranging from general knowledge, current affairs, names of buildings in Kampala, famous songs, history, name it. Guests form teams and then choose names for their teams. The teams can be as many as the crowd on a particular day can make.
There is enough space both at the bar stools and sofas, making for a comfortable and relaxed environment. The bar is well stocked and the famous Daytona nyama choma is readily available.
To pull in a good number or give patrons something to look forward to, there are happy hours between 6pm and 8pm, where beers go for Shs3,000, courtesy of Mitchie’s Crunchy maize snacks, which are whole grain maize snacks that come in five different flavours. The snack, especially the chilli flavour goes very well with the beer.
Last week four teams participated while guests sampled the snack. The Managing Director, TMT Industries; manufacturers of Mitchies, Anthony Mondo, presented gifts to Team Sassie Bernadette who scored best. Also to receive gifts were loyal participants.
And whereas it gives winners joy, the quiz night is worth every minute of your time because the questions seem simple but tickle the mind. What’s more, there is bonding and teamwork exhibited.
After the quiz is done, the deejay repossesses the crowd and mixes music that is cool to dance to or sing along to. The waiters and waitresses are nice and polite. Entrance is free and anyone can take part in the quiz.
