After a four-month medical stay in the United States, legendary Ugandan artist Jose Chameleone finally made his return home—and was met with cheers and heartfelt embraces from family and his Leone Island crew. Among those who welcomed him at the airport were his father, brother Pallaso, and singer Betty Mpologoma.
But even with the warm reception, Chameleone couldn’t hide his disappointment. While grateful for those who showed up, he called out fellow artist Eddy Kenzo and the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) for being a no-show during his homecoming.
“Being a founding member of the federation, I expected more,” Chameleone said.
Responding to the criticism, Kenzo clarified that he had been away in Yumbe, West Nile, attending a peace-related event involving soldiers and supporting Fifi in a mobilization effort.
“I’ve been in Yumbe for almost a week. Pallaso even came to the federation secretariat and shared the plans. I made calls to inform the team,” Kenzo said.
“Unfortunately, those I instructed didn’t act immediately. They said they needed more confirmation from Pallaso, which didn’t happen.”
Kenzo promised that the miscommunication will be addressed to ensure better coordination in the future.
While the federation may have fumbled this welcome, Chameleone’s return still stirred excitement across the music industry—his presence is a powerful reminder of the legend he continues to be.
