Detectives at Kira Road Police Station are investigating a suspected poisoning case that occurred at a popular Kampala night club, Mezo Noir, after a 23-year-old patron reportedly collapsed in their office and died after being rushed to hospital.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango said Friday, March 21, 2025 that two men he identified as Edward Mugabo and his brother Joseph Kalenzi had been detained to aid police in investigations following the death of Martha Ahumuza Murari.
“The victim met her friend, Mugabo Edward, a cashier at the bar, at 2 am, and they drank together until 3:30 am, when they moved to the manager’s office, which has no CCTV cameras. The victim reportedly collapsed in the office, and Mugabo notified his brother, Kalenzi Joseph. They rushed the victim to Kampala Hospital, where she was put on life support,” Mr Onyango said.
Mr Onyango said the two brothers are being held at Kira Road Police Station as investigations into Ahumuza’s death, continue.
Mr Onyango’s statement comes hours after the managers of the hangout located in Kololo, a Kampala suburb, in a Friday morning statement, announced a temporary closure “due to unforeseen circumstances. We appreciate your understanding and regret any inconvenience this may have caused. A notification will be issued in due course announcing the reopening date.”
Her body will be taken to All Saints Church Kampala for service before it is transported to Nyarubanga in Mbarara where she will be buried on March 23, according to a copy of the burial arrangement seen by this reporter.
