Bobi, Muhoozi proposed boxing match excites social media

Social media has been buzzing for days now since March 25, 2025 when National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine accepted a boxing match challenge from President Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba who serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

“Killing Kabobi is an easy job! very easy. He says he likes boxing. I invite him to a boxing match,” Gen Muhoozi posted on his X handle, attracting a response from Bobi Wine, who asked him to propose the date.

“Challenge accepted! If you beat me, I’ll quit politics, and if I beat you, you quit alcohol. Say when, and I’ll say where,” he said, stirring social media with many commentators and many proposals.

The excitement has not spared the president of the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF), Mr Moses Muhangi, who supported the fight, stating the fight should be organised at Namboole Stadium and officiated by foreign referees.

“On behalf of UBF, we are so happy to sanction and organise this fight. In the red corner is Kyagulanyi and in the blue corner, Muhoozi. They will be at Namboole Stadium and all judges will be imported to ensure neutrality in decision making,” Muhangi said.

Gen Muhoozi whose X account has since been deactivated, said he launched a series of provocative attacks on the leading opposition leader on March 24, 2025, promising to annihilate him and his supporters.

Gen Muhoozi who has in the past expressed interest in inheriting his aging father who has ruled Uganda since 1986 said he would never allow Kyagulanyi to enter State House.

“I won’t stand in an election with Kabobi. I will simply shoot him dead,” he tweeted, adding: “Tell Kabobi I didn’t beat him enough in Arua I am coming for him again properly,” Kabobi is going to get the beating soon, I will promote the soldier who kills him,” Gen Muhoozi whose X controversial posts have in the past sparked off diplomatic tiffs between Uganda and other countries, posted on March 25.

At the peak of his music career, Bobi Wine made several appearances in the boxing ring and has on many occasions been seen in the company of his “longtime friend” Michael Ouma.

As their supporters anxiously wait for the match to happen, we can only wish both of them good luck.
