A video circulating online has sparked significant attention and debate, showing Ugandan musician Douglas Mayanja, better known as Weasel, expressing his desire to return home from his stay in the United States. The video, which shows Weasel requesting to be taken back to Uganda, has raised eyebrows and led to a response from his longtime friend and fellow musician, Jose Chameleone.
Chameleone, who brought Weasel to the U.S. as his caretaker for medical treatment, confirmed that Weasel has been feeling down in recent days. In a voice note shared with the public, Chameleone explained that his decision to travel with Weasel was driven by the duo’s longstanding friendship, but now, after two months in the U.S., Weasel is eager to return home to be with his family.
“Weasel has been patient with me. I came with him, and it has been two months. He misses his family, his children who have been calling and asking when he will be back. He has been down for the past couple of days, and he told me. I also support his decision to go back and meet his family. It’s high time he gets organized and returns,” Chameleone said, adding that he fully understands his friend’s desire to go home after being away for so long.
Weasel’s absence from work during the two-month period has added to the pressure he is feeling, with Chameleone acknowledging the toll it has taken on him. “The pressure has been too much for him. He has not been working for two months, and it’s just natural that he feels this way,” Chameleone explained. “I fully understand.”
Chameleone also suggested that Pallaso, another member of the Mayanja family and a fellow musician, could potentially step in to take over as his caretaker while Weasel finishes the healing process.
Despite Weasel’s expressed longing to return home, some social media videos have shown him partying and enjoying himself in the U.S., particularly in Miami with Juliet Zawedde. Meanwhile, Chameleone has been staying in Boston, seemingly handling things on his own. Chameleone, however, has expressed gratitude towards Zawedde for her support during his time in the U.S., thanking her for taking great care of him.
“I’d like to first thank Juliet for the initiative. She has taken very good care of me; I have no complaints,” Chameleone said.
Weasel’s journey to the U.S. began last year when he accompanied Chameleone as a caretaker under the guidance of Zawedde. Although the trip initially seemed to be for medical reasons, it now appears that Weasel’s personal struggles, including the pressure of being away from home, are taking a toll on him.
Now, with the video of Weasel requesting to return home, Chameleone has confirmed that his friend’s feelings are valid, and it may be time for Weasel to reunite with his family in Uganda.
